Biography
PARIS

Notes: When I went to Paris the second time, in July of '92, I enjoyed walking along the Seine beyond Notre Dame past the houseboats. A little further down the walkway is a park like setting with a small ampitheatre in the round. The first night as I walked past there were a handfull of couples dancing the Tango with portable "boom boxes" playing the music. It seemed completely spontaneous, as if one copule came and danced and then another and another. The next night when I walked by there were at least fifty couples dancing there. And of course public music is everywhere in this city. Hence the two poems.

Paris, 7/92

There

are no common
faces, places
here, no
mundane
moments, this
city is a spell one
percent of the world is
under, just
across the borders of
Trance where your
soul
is your Passport. They
dance here, can't seem to
stop, down by the
Seine, way past mid-
night, or jam jazz, rhythm
under the
bridge. They
sit on the steps at the
face of Sacre Cour or on the
terrace across from the
Trocadero, waiting like
lovers, for night
fall. You can see the
music you can feel the colors of
Parisian hearts at
play as they wait for
daylight's curtain to
crop when the lights and the
stars come on and the
music
never stops..

Contagion

There is a place
along the Seine where
dancing
breaks out the way
wildflowers sprout
wherever the wind drops
a seed, a place charged
with greed for
the marrow of life, the
marrow.

Dreams do come true. Why do we give up on our dreams just because we've grown older?
