The most recent venture under the WBP umbrella is the political weblication Libertarian Place under the program, Libertarian World Media. (see subsequent page) and the Writers Block Productions new talent project (below).

At writers block productions (wbp), we know from experience, that it's harder than ever to publish the traditional way in this market. But here's the silver lining: new technology provides aspiring writers an entire new opportunity to publish, to control content, packaging and marketing of your work, and to collect royalties beginning with the sale of copy-one, without an up-front investment. If this were the music industry they would call what we do private-label distribution. If it were the film industry we'd be called an "Indy" (independent). Or you could call us the Sundance of independent publishing.

wbp is not a publishing company. We are a literary production company.

Until now wbp has existed as a DBA for one person's creative work. However, we are beginning a pilot project to benefit promising new talent.

We are looking for unpublished writers
  • with quality book-length fiction, who..
  • despite serious attempts, have failed to obtain a traditional publisher, and..
  • pass a Jury Review and are deemed print-worthy*

Beginning with one trial case* we will produce the featured writer's work

  • Providing final editorial review of content and presentation
  • Facilitating publication in partnership with print-on-demand services.
  • Directing marketing and publicity, pre and post-publication.

*Judging and Production Criteria: In the opinion of the jury, all submitted work that has literary merit comparable to similar works currently in publication, will be recognized as Print-worthy. If there are more than one such work, a second review will be conducted to identify the submission with the greatest literary merit. Commercial potential will be considered only as a tie-breaker between two otherwise equally meritous submissions. Should the pilot project succeed to the degree that this program is established as a permanent operation, all other designated works will be produced.

Submission Criteria and Process

  • Unpublished writers only, may submit, for initial screening,
  • a summary of their work including title, basic idea or plot in 300 words or less, and (only) two unconnected representative paragraphs from the work.
  •  Applicants may not currently be under contract with literary agents unless they can provide a waiver from their agent, releasing the applicant from any obligation to compensate the agent relative to the wbp production/publication of the submission, including any royalties earned by the author. This agreement does not preclude the agent from shopping the book to traditional publishers (but no sooner than 90 days after publication) or receving due compensation for such placement, with the following stipulations (cited below, which must also be included in writing in the waiver*).
  • Submissions in strict compliance with instructions above must be sent via the contact form below. The summary portion should be entered in the message box.
  • Applicants whose submissions that pass initial screening will be contacted with instructions for submission of the complete work. Those who do not pass will be notified via email within twenty-four hours of a decsion to eliminate their submission.

*Since the purpose of this project is to assist new writers with the process of discovery and publication, the production and publication agreement with wbp and our print-on-demand partners does allow for the work to be released for re-publication by another publisher for reasonable financial consideration to the publisher and for a percentage of agent commissions to be mutually agreed at the time of release. Release is dependent upon mutal agreement in advance.)
